Hello! Welcome to my new blog!
This page has been blank for far to long haha…
2020 is well underway, winter training is almost complete and in under two months I will start my competitive season! I am really looking forward to this season with the prospect of representing Paralympics GB in Tokyo this August. Time really flies when you’re having fun.
This brings me onto my first topic of discussion, sport and why it is so much more than medals. It is very easy to get bogged down with performance goals, and by all means, goals are extremely helpful. When I get asked, “What motivates you? What keeps you going?” I always reply with, “My goals”, because it is true. However, the power of being active transcends numerical goals and medal targets.
Sport is also about enjoyment and this partly explains why athletes tend to have long careers in their chosen disciplines. Positive outcomes promote great feelings of pride and achievement but the process is also extremely satisfying. I have had several moments this winter where I have felt really good just by getting it done. Every mile counts, every hour counts. Endorphins and adrenaline are great, just in and of themselves.
The process is just as satisfying as the outcome, maybe sometimes more satisfying!
See you next time 🙂
